A Going Away Present

Since I’m leaving for six months, I thought I’d give everyone something to listen to while I’m gone. The following tracks are a compilation of voyeur recordings from shows in SL and other recorded media I have been working on. I had no clue I recorded myself until I found them several weeks later. Thank you everyone who supported me. If you’re interested in checking out the status of my cruise ship gig, you can find more information (hopefully some pictures now and then) at one of the following sites:

MoeCAST Episode 004 – Smily Raymaker

Ladies, Gentlemen, Furries, Tinies, Robots, Vampires, Particle Anomalies, Flexors, Sculpters, Sculpted, Newbies, and last but not least, the Oldies but the Goodies:

Phew that’s a long, incomplete list! My next guest is one of SL’s best kept secrets – Smily Raymaker. She hails from the United Kingdom, and has NEVER performed in public until she came to SL, not more than a few months ago. She is using SL as a vehicle to overcome her fear of crowds, but in my opinion, there’s no reason why she shouldn’t feel like she’s the cat’s pajamas. She has a voice of an angel and a personality to match, so don’t miss out!

America’s Got Gimmicks in SL

I was notified of a talent competition in SL, so I decided to enter, thinking I could perform an original track while my avatar stood there with his instruments. Maybe the visual experience isn’t very stimulating, but the audio experience would be. After all, I took the last two days out of my life to work on a KILLER audio track to perform for them. Of all the facets of SL, one would think that musical performance would constitute as a legitimate source of SL talent, right? Wrong.

Apparently they want to prevent any RL kinds of talent from entering the competition – sorry to break the news to all of you basket weavers. To me, this whole competition is only using 3 dimensions. What do i mean only? Well, we have the building axis (3D), then we have audio (another dimension all together), and video, which adds two more axes to the collection. That means they are using three out of six available dimensions from SL. This competition should be called “America’s Got Half-Assed Talent in SL.” If they wanted to make this a building and scripting competition, they should have called it that!

From this video, it looks like people are going to make their avatars do circus tricks and whatnot. There’s music playing in the background, which kind of threw me off too. Is this what they are looking for? A bunch of SL gimmicks? “I can multiply my avatar and make Flaming Moe 1-5 go get coffee at SLbucks while Moes 6-10 build a house, 11-15 make a HUD radar, and 16-3000 play SLingo.”

I was hoping this was it – this was a lucky break. I should have known better. It was too good to be true. They don’t care about promoting real, useful talent. They want to promote Second Life to draw more attention to it.

Friday, May 25 – Lots of things happening

  • Well I think I have hit the ultimate point of laziness, because I am tired of writing up three lines for every show to go on my front page, plus I have a bunch of regular venues now, so I decided to do a schedule overhaul. You can now find my schedule at . I think there’s even a way to subscribe to the schedule and have notices sent to your email or even text messages on your cell phone! Now there’s no excuse for anyone to ever tell me “Moe, I had no idea when you’re playing.” So now, the schedule is in an even EASIER place to find than the quasi-facilitated front page schedule. Again, every location listed on Google Calendar has a SLURL to teleport to. I decided to start using this because Mozilla Thunderbird has a calendar tool called Lightning and a tool to update Google Calendar from Lightning. I’ve found that this is by far the easiest way to put everything into one solid place.
  • Next, I have decided to start getting the MoeCAST rolling, so I’m going to be on Podshow at moecast.podshow.com. Does this mean I’ll stop uploading files to my own server? No. Podshow is just another way I can start archiving the show on a site to get more traffic, both for me, and for my guests. They deserve the best, so I’m working my butt off to get this show onto different sites like Twitter and Talkshoe. I’m not even sure of what the full functionality these sites have to offer, but it’s going to be an interesting trek to find out.
  • FINALLY, I have a show today at Galveston, 5pm SLT. I’ll even have a Google Calendar button to click at the show. Take care folks!

Wednesday update

Not really a lot of news.  Weirdharold Cave posted an interview of me here.  I’ve been working on mixing my new CD that will be coming out this summer before SLCC.  I’ll be sure to bring plenty of copies.  I’m not sure of the extent of what it will take to print a quality copy, so I’ll be looking into that.  If anyone has any suggestions, you can always E-mail me using the contact form below.  There’s no MoeCAST this week, but June 6th will feature Jaycatt Nico and Frogg Marlowe.  I think I may have mentioned that in a previous post, but oh well!

Friday, May 18th

Hey folks!  Keiko’s MoeCAST is finally done!  It was such a pleasure to work with her.  She has such a cute personality and an awesome musical style.

Later today, I’ll be playing my weekly Friday show at Galveston, 5pm SLT.  Afterwards, Frogg and Jaycatt have a show somewhere.  They usually start around 7pm, so check events.
